Perri Jaye 2018 Pinot Noir

Russian River Valley

Vintage

After the tragic fires of 2017, the delightfully uneventful harvest of 2018 was a very welcome event. Budbreak and fruit set began precisely on time and the weather was truly ideal. The beautiful diurnal weather shifts that are the hallmark of the Russian River Valley with warm days, cool fog laden evenings, and no prolonged heat spikes allowed the fruit a beautifully long hangtime. The 2018 vintage delivered an extremely high quality and above average yield, we were able to harvest the estate vineyard on September 21, 2018.

Winemaking

This is a small vineyard, we were able to harvest in one night and bring the fruit into the winery during the cool morning hours. The clusters were fermented in 2 one-ton bins, gently pressed into tank to settle, and then transferred to a combination of neutral (75%) and new French oak barrels for a period of 20 months. Bottle ageing benefits the complexities of this unfined and unfiltered Pinot Noir.

Winemaker’s Tasting Notes

Our 2018 Russian River Pinot Noir opens with aromas of raspberry, pomegranate, and sassafras. Bright fruit flavors shine on the palate, with flavors reminiscent of wild strawberry, raspberry, and red plums. This medium-bodied wine has a lovely mouth feel and long, toasty finish.
