Pinot Noir nurtured at home, crushed with passion, and bottled with love.
Real wine celebrating life
in the Russian River Valley.
In late 2005, my husband Carmen and I had the great fortune to move our family to our current home/vineyard in Sonoma County, after several corporate moves over the years. Sonoma County is a great place to grow a family, and world class Pinot Noir as well.
Looking for new challenges in my new home, I quickly entered the Viticulture program at Santa Rosa Junior College. An unexpected passion was ignited. I eventually completed the SRJC Wines & Vines certificate and also several wine making workshops at UC Davis. In 2006 I began making a little wine in my garage with the help and advice of a few friends – it was amazing and tons of fun.
After a few more years of garage vintages, I decided to take my enthusiasm to the next level. I had been dealing with the esteemed winemakers and cellar folks at Kosta Browne Wines as one of their RRV grape growers for many years, then in 2012, I was able to convince them to hire me as the oldest harvest intern they had ever had.
It was an incredible experience. I learned so much about all the hard work required to transform great grapes into great wines – quality starting in the vineyard, meticulous preparations, cleaning, cleaning and more cleaning, careful care and calculations, and dedication to work until it’s done. The folks at KB were happily surprised by my abilities and asked me back the following year. (Age is just a number!)
Now, I really had the desire to make wine. In 2014, I was looking into smaller production pinot noir and approached my neighbor and great winemaking friend, Kathleen Inman, to see if she was looking for harvest help. Since my initial ask, I have worked at Inman Family for almost all of their harvests.
Now fully convinced it was time to try my hand at “real” winemaking I decided to keep a small portion of our harvest and my first commercial production of Perri Jaye Vineyards was vintage 2017.
Currently, we produce around 100 cases of Perri Jaye Pinot Noir annually. Additionally, we whole-cluster press around a ton of Russian River Valley pinot for our lovely Rosé of Pinot Noir.
Being the sole winemaker, my hands touch every aspect of the process. I farm the vineyard, help hand-harvest the grapes, and then crush, ferment, age, and bottle the wine with the utmost care and intention.
As my husband and I continue on our lifelong journey in the wine business, we intend to savor the coming years by doing more of what brings us joy: nurturing our estate and vines in the RRV, growing, making, and selling our own world class wines. The vineyard is more than where the grapes grow, it is the site of gathering for family, friends, and community – it’s our home.
